More than 25 years after the fall of the USSR, the Republic of Moldova is facing a prolonged economic crisis. Consequently, the workforce starts migrating abroad. According to statistics, each year the population equivalent of two or three small villages departs from the country, leaving behind deserted, crumbling homes, children and elderly people who have nowhere to go.
